Does your friend or romantic partner need you to send them crypto? Or has someone who’s been helping you invest recently asked you to send crypto to them, or to a platform where they invest?
If someone has asked you to send them crypto, you’ll first need to know their wallet address and the service the wallet is being held on. When sending crypto to a person or business, you’ll likely have to fill out “Travel Rule” information, which includes the name and address of the person you are sending to. If this information isn’t something you have at the ready, pause to get it and think about why you may not have this information.
Ask yourself a few questions:
- How do you know this person?
- Have you met them in real life?
- Did they approach you and suggest using crypto?
It's extremely important to understand that cryptocurrency withdrawals are irreversible and cannot be reclaimed or recovered once sent.
Say your boyfriend, girlfriend or fiancée asks you to send them crypto to help them pay for something: pause to think that crypto is not yet widely accepted as a payment method. For example: they told you that they want to come visit you, but need money for a plane ticket. Does the airline accept crypto? Probably not.
If you’re sure you want to invest but aren’t great with technology and someone has offered to help you by remotely operating your computer, stop. Please do not ever let someone else operate your computer remotely. It may sound easier, but it’s extremely dangerous. Programs like Anydesk or Teamviewer give others complete control over your computer
