Why do I need to provide my phone number?

Bitbuy is now requiring all users to provide a phone number to add to their account information. The intent is to ensure the complete and proper verification of all users. The addition of a phone number also allows Bitbuy the ability to better provide support where applicable.

How to verify your phone number and email address for new users

Bitbuy asks that you verify your email address and phone number when creating a new account. This is to ensure security and confirm that new users are who they say they are.

 

When registering with a new account, first you will be asked to input some basic information including your email address. Selecting “Create Account” will automatically send an email to you with instructions on how to proceed. Follow the instructions in the email and click ‘Continue’ to proceed to phone verification.

You will need to confirm your phone number at this step in order to continue with registration. You are allowed to use a non-Canadian phone number here. An active phone is required to complete this step. Please reach out to our Support team if this criteria cannot be met.

Click ‘Get code’ and you should receive an automated message with the verification code. You can choose to have this code sent through Text or Call. Input the code on the next page where it asks you to check your messages. You can always re-send this code if you don’t receive the message.

And with that, you’ve officially created your account. A couple more steps and you’ll be trading in no time. 

How to verify your phone number for existing users

If you have an existing Bitbuy account, you'll be asked to verify your number when you log in for the first time after the CCML transition. Users can verify their phone numbers in three easy steps:

  1. Input your phone number and country code. There are some important things to note here: 
    • You don't need a mobile phone number, you can use a home phone number and choose the 'Call me' option.
    • You can use a non-Canadian phone number.Enter mobile number.png
  2. Select 'Get code via text message' or 'Call me' based on your preferences.
  3. You should receive an automated message with a 6-digit verification code. Enter the code on this page and select 'Submit code.Verify mobile number.png

Once completed, you will be able to access your account as usual. You can see your phone number along with your email, home address, and other personal information on your Profile page. 

Why did my phone number get rejected?

There are a couple of reasons why you may see this page while attempting to verify your phone number.

It could be that:

  1. The phone number was changed too many times
  2. There were too many requests to resend the verification code.
