Why am I having issues depositing Ethereum (ETH) on Bitbuy?

  • Updated

There are two possible reasons why you may be having issues depositing Ethereum (ETH) to your Bitbuy account.

1. "Sending to contract addresses is disabled"

The Ethereum (ETH) wallet address in your Bitbuy account is a contract address. Most wallets and exchanges support sending ETH to contract addresses, but some do not. Blockchain Wallet is a popular ETH wallet that does NOT support sending ETH to a contact address.

If this is the case for you, you will not be able to send your transaction from that particular wallet/exchange, and you will need to send your deposit to the wallet address in your Bitbuy account from a wallet/exchange that can send ETH to a non-contract address. If that is not an option for you, we can provide you with a temporary (non-contract) ETH wallet address to complete your deposit.

2. Out of Gas/Failed Transaction

If your deposit is failing/returning to your wallet, it is possible that that transaction is running out of gas. You can check for this by looking up the transaction on a block explorer, such as https://etherscan.io/. You will see a "Transaction Failed" or "Out Of Gas" error message if this is the case.

Important: You must specify a minimum gas amount of 35,000 when sending ETH to your Bitbuy account from your ETH wallet.

To avoid this issue, you can increase the gas price of your transaction (minimum gas amount of 35,000), or you can send your deposit to the wallet address in your Bitbuy account from a non-contract ETH address.

If you are unable to do so, we can provide you with a temporary (non-contract) ETH wallet address.
